Coach Max Valkingburg started the golf program at Benson High School and retired after 22 years as the Bobcats head coach.  His teams compiled an overall record of 247 wins and only 88 losses during that span.  His Bobcats were State Runners-Up in the State Golf Tournament twice.  Coach Valkingburg was the Arizona Coach's Association All Star Golf Coach in the first year of that event's existence gaining him the respect of many of Arizona's prep golf coaches for his leadership.  Coach Max has been a member of the Arizona Coach's Association since 1954 and once served as the organization's president.  In addition to the golf, Anderson was an ACA All Star coach in football.
