James "Jim" Graham

Coach Jim Graham was the head girls basketball coach at Peoria Cactus High School.  His Lady Cobras were five time Class 4A State Champions (1987, 1993, 2004, 2007, and 2008).  His Lady Cobras were the State Runners-Up three years running in 1988, 1989, and 1990.

Robert L Yniguez

Robert L "Bob" Yniguez was another Hall of Famer that was an Arizona lifer.  Bob graduated from Superior High School, played basketball at Mesa Community College, and finished his education at Arizona State University.  Coach Yniguez began his career at Tolleson and then finished a forty year career at Tempe Marcos DeNiza and McClintock High Schools.  Bob taught social studies and was a certified counselor.  Bob was the Arizona Republic's Coach of the Year in 1980 when his Lady Padres of Marcos de Niza won the 5A State Championship.  His girls were also the State Runner-Up a year later.  Yn

Mike McCauley

Mike McCauley coached girls basketball at Snowflake High School in northeast Arizona for 14 years, and was the boys varsity coach for 5 years.  He was also an assistant in both programs for another 8 years.  Coach McCauley's Lady Lobos were in the state finals 6 times during that period.  The Lady Lobos won the 4A State Title in 1980 by 1 point over Tempe Corona del Sol and another Hall of Fame coach, Larry Hughes.   McCauley's girls won the Class 3A State Basketball Championship in 1982, 1984, and 1991.  The Lady Lobos were also the State Runners-Up in 1983 and 1990.  The 1990 title game w

Larry Hughes

Larry Hughes coached many years at Tempe Corona Del Sol in the girls basketball program and the football program.  Coach Hughes Lady Aztecs won the Class 5A State Basketball Championship in 1981, 1993, 1994, and 2001.  His girls were also the State Runners-Up in 2002.  Hughes' football team won the state title in 1980.  He also had a golf team that won the state title in 1982.  Coach Hughes was also a key assistant to head football coach and Hall of Famer, Gary Venturo.  The basketball court at Corona now bears Hughes' name. Coach Hughes passed away on March 16, 2022 at age 83.

Mike Dyer

Mike Dyer is another of our coaches with "native" attached to his life.  Mike was raised in Arizona and graduated from Ray High School where he lettered in all 4 of the major sports (1960-64).  Mike received his Bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and his Master's from the University of Arizona.  He started his teaching/coaching career at Mayer, but settled early at Marana.  He coached football and baseball in the beginning at Marana, but he took over the girl's basketball program in 1977.  He retired after 26 years in 2003 with 400 wins and only 151 losses.  His Lady Tigers won

Neola "Sis" Voegtli

Neola "Sis" Voegtli from Parker High School was the first woman inducted into the Arizona Coaches Hall of Fame in 1991.  Sis was not only a successful coach, she also supported the Arizona Coaches Association with years of work as an Executive Board Member, All-Star Coach, and committee member.

Steve Burke

Steve Burke's Thunderbird Chiefs dominated play for ten years in the 4A conference.  His girls were State Runners-Up in 1996, 97, and 2004.  The Chiefs were outstanding from 2002-2005 with 4 straight appearances in the State Title game.  Coach Burke's Chiefs won the State Title 3 of those 4 years in 2002, 03, and 05.

Osborn Shackelford

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse (LaCrosse State University) in 1973, Osborn Shackelford began his teaching and coaching career at Maryvale High in Phoenix Arizona.  In 1979, Coach "Shack" became the third head coach for the Maryvale women's basketball program.  He coached the Lady Panthers from 1979-2003 and had a 64.3 winning percentage.  During his tenure, Maryvale won two invitational tournaments, 2 region titles, and were the state champions in 1989 and 1990.  The Lady Panthers lost in double OT in the state semifinals in 1993.  Coach Shack has coached in the

Miner Webster

Miner Webster knows how to finish.  He coached his girls' basketball teams to 9 state finals and won 8 of them.  Coach Webster began his career at Gilbert and won state titles in 1991, 92, 94, and 95.  He moved to the new district school Gilbert Highland and placed second in 1998.  Coach Webster finished with 4 state titles in 4 appearances in the 21st century winning it all in 2003, 05, 08, and 09.  Coach Webster was 712-107 (87%) and his girls won 20 division titles over his 26 years as a coach in the Gilbert District.  Coach Webster finished his career with 831 wins to top all coaches in
