Paul Franklin Petty
Paul Petty was a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Coach Petty taught football at Hardin-Simmons University and New Mexico State University. In the high school ranks, Paul coached at 3 schools in Texas, 6 schools in Arizona, 1 in New Mexico, and retired from coaching in St. Cloud, Florida. Paul's boys in Arizona won 139 games while losing only 70 with 6 ties. The 1955 Miami Vandals were State Champions under Petty. Coach Petty was heavily involved in 3 decades of All-Star games and also many stints in the Down-Under-Bowls in Australia and New Zealand. Paul was a veteran of the Naval and Army Reserves. He was also honored in the Miami High School (AZ) Sports Hall of Fame, the Hardin-Simmons College Sports Hall of Fame, and selected as the Coach of the Year of the National Football Foundation in 1997. Coach Petty passed away in Florida in 2011.
