Marland "Honk" Norton
Marland "Honk" Norton coached basketball at Fort Thomas, Arizona in the 1960's. Coach Norton served on the Executive Board of the High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame for many years. Honk is a figurehead of high school athletics with his coaching success and many years of service to the Arizona Coaches Association, the All-Star games held in Thatcher in the 80's and 90's, and his perennial support to the Hall of Fame since its inception. Norton has been a familiar figure on the dais of the Hall of Fame as the emcee at the inductions for thirty years. Coach Norton's Ft. Thomas Apaches won two small school State Championships in 1963 and 1967. They were the Runners-Up in 1962, 1966, and 1969. His Apaches were in the state finals 5 times in that 8 year span! Honk was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004. Coach Norton and fellow Hall of Famer, OK Fulton, both played on the same basketball team at Eastern Arizona College in the 1950's.
