Max Valkingburg

Coach Max Valkingburg started the golf program at Benson High School and retired after 22 years as the Bobcats head coach.  His teams compiled an overall record of 247 wins and only 88 losses during that span.  His Bobcats were State Runners-Up in the State Golf Tournament twice.  Coach Valkingburg was the Arizona Coach's Association All Star Golf Coach in the first year of that event's existence gaining him the respect of many of Arizona's prep golf coaches for his leadership.  Coach Max has been a member of the Arizona Coach's Association since 1954 and once served as the organization's p

Mike McCauley

Mike McCauley coached girls basketball at Snowflake High School in northeast Arizona for 14 years, and was the boys varsity coach for 5 years.  He was also an assistant in both programs for another 8 years.  Coach McCauley's Lady Lobos were in the state finals 6 times during that period.  The Lady Lobos won the 4A State Title in 1980 by 1 point over Tempe Corona del Sol and another Hall of Fame coach, Larry Hughes.   McCauley's girls won the Class 3A State Basketball Championship in 1982, 1984, and 1991.  The Lady Lobos were also the State Runners-Up in 1983 and 1990.  The 1990 title game w

Cherry Roberds

Cherry Roberds has coached girls sports at Miami High School for over 30 years.  Coach Roberds was the 5th female coach inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Cherry Roberds record is amazing.  Her Lady Vandal tennis teams have won 19 Class 3A State Tennis Championships during her tenure.  They once won the title 10 years in a row (1973-82).  Her teams also have posted 7 Runners-Up seasons.  Coach Roberds also coached a State Title Volleyball team at Miami (1992) and another Runner-Up in Volleyball (1978).   Coach Roberds was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in

Frank Castro

Frank Castro was a head and an assistant football coach at various prep locations throughout Arizona for the last 40 years.  Coach Castro played in Bagdad and won a 6 man state title before the playoffs were AIA controlled back in 1952.  Frank has been a top assistant in many other successful programs around the state.  Coach was also a successful baseball coach early in his career.  His 1969 Parker Broncs were the State Class 3A Baseball Runners-Up to Marana by a score of 2-1.  Castro was very involved in the Arizona Coaches Association and was a former member of the Executive Board of the

Bill Mitton

Bill Mitton was a long time successful head football coach at Trevor Browne High School in the West Valley.  His early 1980's Bruins were a State 5A power house.  Mitton's 1980 and 82 teams were the State Runners-Up.  The 1981 Bruins were the 5A State Football Champions shutting out Tucson Salpointe 20-0 in the final.  Coach Mitton was a familiar face at all coaching activities and was involved in the ACA All Star Football Games in the late '70's and early '80's. The football field at Trevor now bears the Mitton name. 

Allen "Buck" Hall

Coach Hall is currently on the Executive Board of the Coaches Hall of Fame and has served as the president of the organization from 1994 to 2019 (25 years).  Coach Hall began his coaching career at Tolleson Union High School in 1964 as the Varsity Baseball Coach.  Coach Hall moved over to Maryvale High School in 1968 assisting in football and basketball.  Buck became the head football coach at Maryvale High School in 1980.  Before his retirement from football in 1993, Coach Hall's Panthers reached the state playoffs in 10 of his 14 years at the helm.  Three of his Maryvale Panthers made it
