Joe Famulette, now deceased, was inducted into the Arizona Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1993.  Coach Famulette was highly respected by his peers and revered by the Native American community which he represented on the basketball court.  His style of coaching was "Mush, Mush, Mush" as his Redskins ran the floor without stopping and were famous with their long bomb shots before the three-point line was instituted.  Peter McDonald, the Navajo Tribal Chairman, paid Coach Famulette a tremendous service by introducing him at the Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies.  Phoenix Indian School ope

Gretchen James was one of the first 5 women inducted into the Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame.  Coach James was inducted in the sport of archery which no longer exists under the AIA umbrella.  Her archery teams dominated the sport during its existence.  Gretchen was the first coach from Arizona recognized as the Coach of the Year by the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in 1979.  She was  inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in 2006.

Coach Bud Davis' Tuba City Warriors Cross Country teams dominated their sport in the late 1970's and early 80's.  The Warriors under Davis won six consecutive Class 4A State Championships in 1978, 79, 80, 81, 82, and 83.  The Warriors won again under the new coach in 1984.  Six in a row, WOW!!!

Barbara Stauffer was one of the pioneers in small school girls athletics back in the early years following Title IX.  Coach Stauffer was one of the best small school volleyball coaches in Arizona in the 1970's and 1980's.  She began her career in Duncan where her Lady Wildkats were the 2A Class State Volleyball Champions back-to-back in 1972 and 1973.  Duncan followed up with Runners-Up appearances in 1975 and 1976 under Stauffer.  Barb moved over to Ft.

Coach Wayne DesCombs led the Owls of Agua Fria through 3 decades of baseball.  Wayne's boys won the State Title in 1974 and 1983.  McComb's teams were State Runners-up in 1972 and 1992.  Coach McCombs was instrumental in many of the ACA Baseball All-Star games as a coach and as a liaison officer.  Coach was omnipresent as a director/worker of many of the baseball state playoffs in recent years.  Wayne passed away in 2014 and will be deeply missed.  The baseball complex at Agua Fria High School bears the DesCombes name. 

Don Petranovich was the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Winslow High School for 32 years.  In addition to having the new gym named in his honor, Don managed to win 780 games (third most all time) which included 8 State Titles, and 8 State runners-up.
