Garye LaFevers

Garye LaFevers, as been involved in baseball in Arizona for 40 years. A 6-time
region coach of the year, he was selected as both the 2A Coach of the Year and the
Arizona Coaches Association’s “Arizona Coach of the Year” in 1997.” In 2008,
LaFevers was named the American Baseball Coaches Association’s High School
Division 1 “National Coach of the Year.” While serving as the head coach at 3 different
programs, his teams appeared in 2 state championships, Buckeye Union (the 3A State

Rich Carlberg

Richard began coaching high school baseball as an assistant coach at Coconino High School in 1976 and finished with a 24 year stint as the head coach at Sunnyslope High School. He posted a remarkable 418 wins and a winning percentage of 60%. His teams were Region Champs three times and won the State Title in 1996. He was Arizona State Coach of the Year twice and the National High School Athletic Coaches’ Association Region 8 Coach of the Year in 1996.

James Merrick

Jim’s roots in baseball as a player began in little league and his college experience culminated in 1965 with him being the winning pitcher for ASU in the College World Series championship game. He accepted the head baseball coaching job at McClintock High School in 1968 and remained their head coach for 32 years before stepping down in 1999. His teams participated in the state tournament six times, won the state championship in 1985, were runners-up in 1988 and semi-finalists in 1992. McClintock also won the annual East Valley Tournament six times.

Roy Muller

Roy began his high school coaching career in football and baseball at Paradise Valley High School in 1972. He was named head baseball coach in 1976. He remained in that position until 2014, interrupted only by a one year stint as assistant coach at Phoenix College in 1982. He retired from coaching briefly in 2014, but was lured back to the diamond in 2016 to be the head coach at Pinnacle High School, where, in 2017, they were the state runner-up. As a head coach, Roy is one of the few Arizona high school baseball coaches who have amassed over 700 wins.

Joe Kenrick

Joe Kenrick coached baseball at Wickenburg High School over 30 years as part of a 40 year career at the school.  In addition to baseball, Kenrick coached basketball and football for almost 10 years.  The Wickenburg Wranglers won two Arizona State Titles (1970 and 1980) under Kenrick along with 6 region titles for a 58% winning percentage.  Coach Kenrick was the Division Coach of the Year awarded by the Arizona Republic in 1980.  He was the 3A Region West Coach of the Year 4 times.  Joe was the 3A All Star baseball coach for the Arizona Coaches Association in 1977 and 1989.  The Arizona Coac

Kenneth Smith

Kenneth Smith was the head baseball coach at Benson High School from 1972 to 1992.  His 1987 Benson Bobcats were the Arizona State Class 2A State Champions.  Coach Smith's teams were also the State Runners-Up in 1974 and 1992.  Smith's teams compiled a record of 316 wins and only 153 losses during his tenure.  Coach was very active in the Arizona Coaches Association and assisted frequently in the All-Star games during the 70's and 80's.  He served on many committees and groups supporting high school baseball.  Smith was the "go to guy" for the summer All Star players in the southeast corner

Tom Succow

Tom's high school baseball career began in 1975 when he accepted a teaching and assistant baseball coaching position at Casa Grande High School.  One year later he relocated to Brophy College Preparatory in the same role.  By 1978 he was the Brophy head coach.  He has continued in this role at Brophy for an incredible 39 years.  His Broncos won the Division I State Baseball Championship in 2006 and were the State Runners-Up in 1982, 2007, and 2012.  In addition to 5 region championships, the Broncos have won 681 times for a 66% winning percentage over the 39 years.  Early in the 2016 season
