John Carlson

John Carlson was the head wrestling coach at Chandler High School in the late 1980's and 1990's.  Coach Chandler's Wolves were the back to back Class 5A State Wrestling Champions in 1989 and 1990.  The 1989 team broke Tucson Sunnyside's 8 year streak of State Titles.  The Wolves won the meet by a mere 6 points, but it was enough for the gold.  Coach Carlson was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2013.

George Genung

Coach George Genung is another of our lifetime Arizona bred educators and athletes.  Genung was a graduate of Tucson High School in 1940 and a star in 3 sports; baseball, basketball, and swimming.  George is a member of the Tucson High School Hall of Fame.  Coach Genung attended the University of Arizona and completed his education after serving his country in the military in WWII.  Coach led Amphi Panthers athletic teams from 1947-82 (32 years).  The 1949 Amphi team was the Arizona State 5A Basketball Runner-Up.  Coach is the only person ever elected to both the Arizona Basketball Hall of

Jerry Lee

Coach Jerry Lee led the Benson Bobcats to a whopping 11 small school State 2A Track Championships.  Coach Lee's teams were #1 in 1964, '66', '73, '77, '78, '79, '80, '85, '86, '87, and 1988.  Coach Lee is in an elite class of coaches with more than 10 titles.

Art Griffith

After playing baseball at Arizona State University and graduating from Northern Arizona University Art Griiffith began a long and storied tenure as the head baseball coach at Winslow High School.   He is working on his 51st consecutive year as the head baseball coach and was an assistant one year prior.  Artie  was the Arizona state- runner-up in his first season.  At last count, Coach Griffith's teams had won over 750 games and lost less than 460 games.  The Bulldogs, however, have been in the playoffs almost every one of those 50 seasons with 22 region titles, 8 quarter finals, and 6 semi
