Bary Judd

Bary Judd coached boys and girls track at St. David High School in southeastern Arizona for over 20 years.  His male St. David Tigers were the 1978, 1979, and, twenty years later, the 1998 Class 1A State Track Champions. The boys were also the State Runners-Up in 1974 and 1994.  They were third at the State Meet in 1972, 1983, and 1996.   His Lady Tigers were the 1980, 1984, 1993, and 1994 State Champions.  The girls were also the State Runners-Up 5 more times and third at the State Meet twice.  Coach Judd's girls were also the 1A State Runners-Up in basketball in 1982.

Russ Bethel

Russ Bethel was the head baseball coach at Willcox High School in southeastern Arizona.  Coach Bethel's Cowboys were perennial frontrunners for years.  Willcox made five appearances in the State Title game during his tenure.  The Cowboys were back to back State Runners-Up in 1986 and 1987.  Bethel stayed with the boys another ten years and they pulled off a three-peat in 1999, 2000, and 2001.

Clyda Jean Martin Owen

Clyda Jean Martin Owen came from a large Arizona family.  She attended Arizona State Teacher's College (now ASU) in 1942 and later became the first female Student Body President.  Coach Owen taught and coached at Glendale High School from 1946 to the late 1960's.  Coach Owen is considered to be one of the pioneers in women's high school sports.  The menu above says she was inducted in Girls Basketball, but she was recognized for being a Hall of Famer in all girls sports as well as a cheerleading advisor.  "C.J." won multiple titles in badminton and tennis during her career.  Title IX didn't

Tom Shoemake

Tom Shoemake stood for all the right things at Florence.  He instilled values into his players and they responded with success.  His Florence Gophers won 3 Class 2A State Championships under Shoemake.  The 1987 and 1989 teams were both 13-0.  The 1991 team beat Kearney Ray in a tight 10-6 contest.  Coach Shoemake was active in the Arizona Coaches Association and participated in several of the ACA All Star games held in Thatcher at Eastern Arizona College.  Tom once had a team that won games by such lopsided scores he would put his big linemen in the backfield to just have some fun running t

Doug Baker

Coach Doug Baker led the Flagstaff Eagles on the basketball court with great success in the 1970's, 80's and 90's.  He coached baseball in earlier years at Mayer.  The Eagles were 67-9 over a three year span 1973-75 with the State Title over Canyon Del Oro the last year.  Coach Baker's son Robin scored 21 points in that title game.  Doug Baker was a 3 sport star at Chandler High School, played basketball at Grand Canyon College, and is a member of the Chandler Sports Hall of Fame.
