Ted Fowler

Although he won a 4 year baseball scholarship to the University of Arizona after playing at Phoenix Union, Coach Fowler joined the Naval Reserves and served on the USS Yorktown during the Korean War.  Ted came home and finished his education at Arizona State University.   Fowler coached baseball for over 30 years at Peoria, North, and Mesa High Schools.  Fowler's Peoria Panthers were the 1957 State Champions.  Three years later Coach Fowler led the Phoenix North High School Mustangs to the 1960 State Title with a narrow 6-5 victory over Tucson High School. Fowler was selected to the head baseball job at Mesa under the recommendation of former Mesa and ASU head coach Jim Brock's influence.  Fowler's teams were also league champions six times, division champions three times, and his boys won a State Title at each of the three schools at which he coached.  Fowler was the ACA South All Star Coach in 1969 and 1983.  He finished his career with 331 wins and 254 losses.  Fowler was inducted into the Arizona Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2000.  Coach Fowler retired in 1989 but moved to Eagar in the White Mountains and coached another 10 years of prep baseball.   Coach Fowler passed away on September 16, 2016.
