Reed Peterson

Reed Peterson coached high school athletics at Mesa High School for 36 years (1949-85).  Peterson was a head coach in five different sports and only had two losing seasons during that entire span.  His football teams were 98-58-2 with two divisional titles and five league crowns.  His JV football teams were 80-7.  Peterson was a top assistant for legendary Mesa coach Mutt Ford for five years.  The Jackrabbits were State Champions three times and runners-up the other two years during that span.  Peterson was also honored as a member of the Mesa Sports Hall of Fame.

Tom Davis

Tom Davis was a very successful 1A Football Coach in southeastern Arizona in the 1980's and 1990's.  Coach Davis had good years in Pima and good years at Elfrida Valley Union.  Davis' Pima Roughriders were the Class 1A State Football Champions in 1984.  Pima was also the State Runner-Up the year before.  Moving on to Valley Union, Coach Davis' Blue Devils were State Runners-Up in 1987 and 1990.  Tom was very active in the Arizona Coaches Association and was the president late in the 1990's.  Coach was active in many of the ACA All Star Activities at Eastern Arizona College late in the 80's

Ed Anderson

Coach Ed Anderson led the Scottsdale Coronado Dons to the Class 5A State Championship in football with an exciting victory over Hall of Fame coach Earl Clupper and the South Mountain Rebels 17-12 in 1976.  Coach Anderson started his career with the Chandler Wolves in the mid 1950's and moved to Coronado in 1961.  Anderson was name the Arizona Republic High School Football Coach of the Year in 1976 and 1977.  Ed coached the Arizona Coach's Association All Star Football game in 1973.  To sum up his career, in addition to the 1976 State Title, his teams won 6 City Championships, 5 League Champ

Tom Shoemake

Tom Shoemake stood for all the right things at Florence.  He instilled values into his players and they responded with success.  His Florence Gophers won 3 Class 2A State Championships under Shoemake.  The 1987 and 1989 teams were both 13-0.  The 1991 team beat Kearney Ray in a tight 10-6 contest.  Coach Shoemake was active in the Arizona Coaches Association and participated in several of the ACA All Star games held in Thatcher at Eastern Arizona College.  Tom once had a team that won games by such lopsided scores he would put his big linemen in the backfield to just have some fun running t

C. A. "Mont" Griffiths

C.A. "Mont" Griffiths led the Class 1A Fredonia Lynx to State Football Titles in 3 different decades.  Coach Griffiths coached over 30 years in this remote Arizona town just across the border from Kanab, Utah.   The Lynx were the best 1A football team in the state in 1967, 68, 71, 91, and 1995.  Coach Griffiths was also an outstanding baseball coach.  His 1968 Fredonia crew were the 1A State Champions.  Griffith's 1966, 67, 70, and 71 teams were the Class 1A State Runners-Up.  The football field in Fredonia now bears Griffith's name.

Tom Wheatley

Tom Wheatley was an outstanding high school football coach in the West Valley area of Phoenix for 20 years.  Coach Wheatley was well known for his work ethic and attention to detail.  His assistant coaches would often be asleep on his couch watching weekend film.  All the hard work paid off.  Coach Wheatley's Agua Fria Owls were three time Class 4A State Football Champions in 1988, 1989, and 1991.  The 1989 game with Tempe Union was a hard fought tie (10-10) for a Co-Championship.  The 1986 Owls were the State Runners-Up to Peoria in a very close 29-23 final score.  Coach Tom moved on to th

Charlie Esquivel

Charlie Esquivel was an outstanding football coach.  Charlie Esquivel was an outstanding golf coach.  The Hall of Fame Committee chose to recognize him in both sports.  Coach Esquivel's Joseph City Wildcats won the 1979 State 1A golf championship without a home golf course.  Esquivel moved on to Holbrook to coach golf towards the end of his career.  In football, Esquivel's Blue Ridge Yellowjackets were the State Runners-Up in 2A in 1975.  Coach Esquivel's Wildcats at Joseph City were undefeated (11-0) State Champions in 1A in 1978.  Charlie coached in the ACA All Star football game, and his

Doug Clapp

Doug Clapp was a very successful 4A high school football coach at Peoria High School.  Coach Clapp's Panthers were the 4A State Football Champions in 1986, 1987, and tied Tucson Sahuaro's 1994 team for their third title in 8 years.  Doug's boys were also the State Runners-Up in 1988 and 1990.  Coach Clapp has been an ardent supporter of the Arizona Coaches Association, he has coached in more than one of the ACA All Star games, and formerly served on the Executive Board of the Hall of Fame.

Frank Castro

Frank Castro was a head and an assistant football coach at various prep locations throughout Arizona for the last 40 years.  Coach Castro played in Bagdad and won a 6 man state title before the playoffs were AIA controlled back in 1952.  Frank has been a top assistant in many other successful programs around the state.  Coach was also a successful baseball coach early in his career.  His 1969 Parker Broncs were the State Class 3A Baseball Runners-Up to Marana by a score of 2-1.  Castro was very involved in the Arizona Coaches Association and was a former member of the Executive Board of the

Ralph R. Robinson

Ralph R. "Robby" Robinson taught 39 years in the Phoenix Union District and coached 29 of those years.  Robby was a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Association Hall of Fame.  Coach Robinson personally coached 32 State Championship teams in various sports, primarily football and basketball.  His football teams were 101-35,  Robby's Coyotes were 305-115 in basketball.
