Richard B. "Jiggs" Hardt

Jiggs Hardt was an outstanding basketball coach at North High School for over 28 years.  Coach Hardt was a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Association Hall of Fame.  Coach Hardt was also a great football player, playing for both ASU and NAU before his graduation.  Jiggs was a product of a ranching family and he spent over 50 years as a State Produce Inspector in addition to his teaching and coaching duties.  His 1948 Scottsdale team won the state 6-man football title.  Coach's teams won 2 State Titles in basketball:  1953 at Scottsdale and 1959 at Phoenix North.   Coach Hardt's 1964 a

Larry Hart

Larry Hart was a highly successful football coach at Flowing Wells in Tucson, Arizona.  His Caballeros were State Runners-Up 5 times and were the undefeated State Champions in 1975.  Coach Hart was a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Association Hall of Fame.  Larry once served at the Coaches Association President.  He is also a member of the Flowing Wells Athletic Hall of Fame and the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame.  Coach Hart coached in two of the ACA All-Star football games and was the head coach of the original Arizona vs.

Bryan Clyde "Bud" Doolen

Coach Doolen was a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Association Hall of Fame.  During his 32 years of high school career  coaching his basketball teams won 701 games while only losing 134 games.  Coach Doolen's Badgers won 5 state championships during his reign.  The Badgers won 51 games in a row from 1948 through 1950.  Coach Doolen was well known in Nebraska in the 1930's as an outstanding football coach.  Bud also won a state track title while coaching in Tucson.  Coach Doolen died suddenly after the 17th game of the 1954-55 season and was the winningest basketball coach in the coun

Edgar "Mutt" Ford

Mutt Ford was a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Association Hall of Fame.  Coach Ford was a head football coach in the Mesa School District from 1945 to 1966.  Many of his great seasons were before the era of the AIA playoffs.  Coach Ford's Mesa Jackrabbits, however, won the 5A State Title in 1960, and his Westwood Warriors won the State Title in 1964.  Westwood was also the state runner-up under Ford in 1966.  At the time of his retirement Coach Ford had the most wins by a high school coach in Arizona history with 245.  An extensive archive search also finds that Coach Ford was succe

Steve Coutchie

Coach Steve Coutchie was a charter member of the Arizona High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 1984.  Coach Coutchie was the head football coach at Mesa High School from 1928 to 1945.  Coach Coutchie's Jackrabbits were the State Champions in football twice and his basketball teams also won three State Championships.  Coutchie and fellow Mesa High School Hall of Famer Mutt Ford both won multiple state titles in football and basketball.  Coach Coutchie was the head football coach at Arizona State University in 1946.   Steve Coutchie passed away in 1983 a year before the HOF was created.

Earl Clupper

Earl Clupper was a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Hall of Fame in 1984.  Coach Clupper coached for 34 years with 22 of those being at South Mountain High School.  Coach Clupper had a 66% winning percentage over all those years, and his Rebels won the State Title in 1959 and were the runners-up in 1976.  Coach Clupper also received the Distinguished Service Award Certificate from the National Federation of Interscholastic Officails for 25 years of wrestling officiating.  Coach Clupper was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in 2000.

Roy Coppinger

Coach Coppinger was a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1984.  Coach Coppinger let the Scottdale Coronado Dons through over 20 seasons of baseball in the 60's thru the 80's.  Coach Roy's teams won state titles in 1966, 69, and 1979.  His teams also had 3 runners-up in 1974, 1978, and 1982.  Roy was a home grown product, a Tolleson athlete, on to ASU, served in the Air Force, and then a stellar coaching career.  Roy was selected the National Baseball Coach of the Year by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association in 1990.  Ten years later Roy was in

Ollie Mayfield

Ollie Mayfield was the head football coach for the Tucson High School Badgers over 40 years ago.  Ollie was a charter member of this Hall of Fame.  His 1970 and 1971 teams were the large school state champions. Ollie never had a losing season at Tucson and Sabino and his final football record was 134 wins, 34 losses, and 1 tie.  The Arizona Daily Star named him the Coach of the Decade for 1970-80. Coach Mayfield had two sons go into education and coaching.  Ollie's son, Todd, won a football state title at Tucson Palo Verde in 2005. 

OK Fulton

OK is a charter member of the Arizona Coaches Hall of Fame.  The gymnasium at Agua Fria bears his name.  OK has been extremely active in all Hall of Fame activities since its inception in 1984.  Fulton served as the HOF Secretary for the first 30 years of its 37 year existence.  Coach Fulton is currently serving on the Executive Board of the HOF.  Ok and Honk Norton were the master's of ceremony at the HOF inductions for 11 years.  Fulton and Norton were college basketball team mates at Eastern Arizona College in the 1950's.  OK's basketball teams were always good.  His Owls won State Title
